round 4

Canadian Moto.

Arenacross is live and well in Canada. As we mentioned last week, it is still nice enough to be riding outdoors so there was a worry that numbers would be low for Chilliwack AX but numbers turned out to be just over 300 entries.

This marks Gauld's second year running the Chilliwack Arenacross after taking over from Future West. As always, the second year brings a smoother, lower-stress operation.

Riders Meeting

The Mini classes were packed. With so many riders, the 50cc, 65cc, and 85cc classes each required three qualifiers. It was great to see so many fast young riders, and they delivered some of the best racing of the night!

A topic discussed on the CMXU Podcast with Ryan Gauld, Ryan Lockhart, and Ken Catton was the heated situation with 50cc parents. Things escalated to the point of a fistfight, prompting a police response. However, the incident was eventually deemed nonsense and brushed off after some brief detainment.

Charlie Johnston from CJR Suspension and Quinn were the dream team of the weekend.

Priority MX Team Manager Justin Roney.

There was plenty of buzz about what this race means for Canadian teams, with some even sending team managers. For example, Justin Roney was on-site to support Priority MX riders Wyatt Kerr and Parker Eales. Unfortunately, Wyatt's weekend took a tough turn when he suffered the most SPECtacular crash of the event. After flying through the whoops, he didn’t slow for the berm, launching himself and his bike in dramatic fashion.

On the flip side, some teams didn't send riders at all, while others sent riders with minimal support.

There was a time when the Chilliwack AX was a major event in Canadian motocross.

With the national series cutting the Arenacross portion, it seems there could be an opportunity to develop a new Arenacross series in Canada and this could be the place it starts.

Brady Sheren and His son Jack post moto chats.

Jack Sheren raced his first event this past weekend, but what many don’t know is that his dad, Brady Sheren, is a motocross legend in his own right. Not only is Brady the inventor and co-owner of Matrix Concepts (Newf’s boss), but he also raced the Canadian Nationals and scored points in multiple Supercross seasons. After stepping away to build a successful company and family, it’s great for the sport to see Brady back in the mix—he’s already done so much for Canadian motocross.

Another big race with strong Canadian attendance is Mini O's in Florida. While we’re not there this year, focusing on Chilliwack, we want to highlight some standout performances from our riders down south.

Mini O's features both a Supercross and Motocross portion. With the Supercross now wrapped up, we'll shine a spotlight on some great rides from that segment. Next week, we’ll dive into the Motocross results.

Mason Murdy - Ontario

Hayden Dupuis - Alberta

Brandy McLarty - Ontario

Kiana Kurtz - Ontario

MiniOs are a great place to go really test what you have compared to some of the fastest riders in the world.

Ryder McNabb being selected for Team Canada 2023

It’s official: Ryder McNabb will join GDR Honda for the 2025 season, racing a 250, which had previously been a point of debate due to the rules. While no official rule change has been announced, this confirmation suggests the decision has been made.

Don’t forget to check out round 1 and 2 recaps, before round 3 and 4 gets underway!

Thats all for this week, as we head back into the barn for round 3 and 4 to crown a 2024 AMO AX Champion.
