Round 4

Canadian Pro Motocross Update

Kawasaki SSR dropped their official team introduction, and a few key notes stood out. Cory Wilson, formerly Dylan Wright’s mechanic, will be stepping into Sebastien Racine mechanic role.

In other mechanic news, Scott “Donk” Donkersgoed is set to return to the national series after a few years away. Donk brings a deep well of experience, having worked with top American pros as well as leading Canadian riders.

Gibbs and Masciangelo lined up in Heat 1, with Masciangelo holding a transfer spot in 9th for most of the race. On the final lap, Gage Linville made a move that put Preston on the ground and knocked him out of the spot, but after the results were sorted, Masciangelo was awarded a direct transfer to the main. Gibbs, meanwhile, suffered a DNF after cross rutting ending up on the ground and was forced into the LCQ.

In Heat 2, Cole Thompson secured his spot in the main with an 8th-place finish. Gibbs was unable to put it in the top four in the LCQ and left us with two Canadians in the Main. Cole getting 15th and Preston with a 21st.

AMO Racing saw a solid pro turnout, maybe not as stacked as Round 1, but still a strong showing. Priority MX is clearly focused on getting gate drops, and it’s paying off. The entire team lined up, with Quinn Amyotte and Tanner Ward splitting Pro-Am moto wins, while Ward secured the overall.

Tanner Scott followed in behind in 3rd, now riding a KTM. Ryan Gauld mentioned on the CMXU podcast that Scott could be a dark horse this season based on how he’s riding right now.

Amateur and Local Racing

This marked the final Spring Super Series at the current Wild Rose location. The Pro-Am class saw 15 entries on Saturday and 19 on Sunday, with some riders heading to the SOR race an hour away, a one-day pro event.

Wyatt Hasil claimed three of four moto wins after a winter training in Texas, showing speed. In the final GP Pro-Am moto of the weekend, he unfortunately went down on the first jump off the start and did not return to the bike. He was taken back to the pits by side-by-side, hopefully nothing serious, as that pace will be one to watch heading into Round 1 of the nationals at Wild Rose in June.

Dexter Seitz was the top intermediate all weekend, finishing an impressive 4th in Pro-Am at Round 1 and backing it up with a 7th at Round 2 after a long winter of recovery from shoulder surgery.

Kaylie Kayer went a perfect 1-1-1-1 on the track in Ladies A, but a penalty for jumping on a yellow flag in moto one of Round 2 cost her. That opened the door for Danika, headlight and all, to grab a moto win. By 12 year old Brynn Langford to get her first overall win in Ladies A.

Round 2 of the AMO series was at Auburn Hills had just under 700 entries.

We checked in with Ryan Gauld to hear his take on the weekend:

“It was so damn windy and so damn cold, I’m pretty sure a few riders considered applying for winter tires mid-moto. Then, just to really seal the deal, it started raining Sunday around 2… and didn’t stop until we were basically loading up and questioning our life choices.

And yet—racers showed up. They battled everything Mother Nature threw at them (which was apparently everything). Somehow there were still smiles, which either says a lot about this crew… or we’ve all just lost feeling in our faces.

All jokes aside, just under 700 entries, some amazing racing, Auburn Hills delivered again for Round 2. The pits had an unreal vibe, the pit bike race was an absolute riot, and people genuinely seemed to have a blast from top to bottom.

Mother Nature may have been a bit of a menace… but she didn’t win. 💪”

Thanks Ryan sounds like a great time!!!

Future West headed to Quesnel, BC for their round 2 as well and we asked Ryan Lockhart to give us the run down how it went!

“It was sooooo hot. 29-31 degrees but it was a pretty good weekend. Just shy of 500 entries which is big for there. Track is sand so it go super rough and tough with threw lots into a state, since track in Kelowna was easiest of series and this one is hardest lol. People are funny. Very few injuries and only one ambulance ride which was for Christina the ref who got hit by an open beginner and broke her foot and thumb 🤦.

Revy up next and going to be a big one”

Heal up Christina, thinking of yeah!

WMX

Destiny Slingerland lined up at the SOR race last Saturday aboard a Sherco, but her focus this summer is set on the U.S. taking on the full six-round American series. She’s aiming to become the first Canadian WMX rider to chase the entire championship since its return. We will be following along her chase.

One rider who stood out at Wild Rose Super Series race was 12-year-old Brynn Langford. Moving up to the 250 class may have raised some questions, until you see her ride. She delivered an unreal performance Sunday in Ladies A, beating her sister Cali at round 2, a major goal that came quicker than expected. Cali is riding strong as well, but Brynn is clearly on another level right now. Brynn ended up getting her first overall at round 2 with a 2-2 day marking a big milestone for the young rider, sadly we wont get to see her line up for a national for a couple years as the age limit is 14!

Evan Holte, better known as Holtezy, is a Calgary-based filmer who’s put in the work from the ground up, cutting his teeth on local projects and steadily building his name behind the lens. That grind has paid off, earning him a well-deserved spot with the Gypsy Tales film crew. The opportunity brings a wave of major projects, including a trip to Miami this week for F1 with the team.

Holtzy’s talent doesn’t stop at filming either, if you’ve ever tuned into MX Sim with Kellen Brauer, you’ve likely seen him running up front, adding another layer to his skill set. He is headed to SLC now for the final round of supercross.

Big things ahead. Well earned, and just getting started.
