Eventful Night of Supercross: Canadians and Challenges at A2

The Sound Testing
One of the biggest talking points in the pits this week wasn’t just about speed and crashes—it was about sound testing. A significant number of riders were pulled in for sound checks, with many failing to pass and subsequently losing their fastest laps. The AMA’s strict sound regulations require bikes to stay under 112 dB/A when cold and 114 dB/A when hot. This year, it’s clear that the AMA is cracking down more than ever on noise levels, and next season, those limits will only get stricter. The question on everyone’s mind: How will teams manage to meet these noise restrictions without sacrificing performance?

A2 always delivers, the latest round of Supercross saw Canadian riders facing both triumphs and setbacks.

Preston Masciangelo: A Rookie on the Rise
The bright spot for Canada was Rookie Preston Masciangelo, who made it into the night show and showed impressive growth. After racing SX Futures last year, it’s clear the experience is paying off. In his Main Event debut, Masciangelo handled the pressure like a seasoned pro, proving that his early learning curve is only the beginning.

Julien Benek: A Strong Comeback
Julien Benek made a strong return to Supercross at A2, turning heads with his speed and determination. Although he didn’t make the Main, his performance was enough to catch the attention of Star Yamaha, who were eager to chat with the Canadian talent. A crash in the LCQ derailed his chances, but had it not been for the misfortune, it’s likely he would’ve been battling in the main Saturday Night. Expect big things from Benek moving forward.

Cole Thompson: Illness and Crash Combine for Tough Luck
Cole Thompson was battling more than just the competition at A2—he was also dealing with a nasty flu that had been circulating the pits. Riders across the paddock had been falling ill, and Thompson’s performance was possibly impacted by his condition. Things took a turn for the worse when he crashed hard in the whoops during his Heat race and called it a day early. Hopefully, Thompson can recover quickly and return to full strength for upcoming rounds. Thompson up until this point has been our top Canadian and showing to be a top contender in the 250 West class becoming a consistent top 10 guy until this rough weekend.

Blake Davies: Consistent Progress
Blake Davies continues to build on his experience week by week. Qualifying for the night show once again, he’s proving his speed isn’t a fluke. However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. After failing the first sound test after his Quali, his re-testing passed. If he had failed that test his second time was not fast enough to get him into the main, something to work on will be gathering a few fast laps to really secure that spot. With one more round scheduled for Glendale, Davies is steadily making progress, and his confidence is growing with every race.

Guillaume St. Cyr: Battling Through Pain
For St. Cyr, it was a tough night both physically and mentally. Struggling with a painful shoulder injury, he admitted that while his lap times were starting to improve, the pain was still holding him back. He also faced a setback after qualifying, as his fastest lap was disqualified due to a sound test failure. The increased speed of the competition this season has made things even more challenging, but St. Cyr remains determined to push through.

Noah was unable to race at A2 due to a shoulder injury. He announced on Instagram that he will undergo surgery on Tuesday to address the issue.

Ironhorse AX: Tight Track, Big Buzz, Tough Competition

The Ironhorse AX is generating plenty of buzz, but not much else can be said just yet—except that it’s shaping up to be a tough battle for anyone who shows up. With rumors of riders making the trip for the payout, expectations are high, the track is tight, and that’s going to level the playing field. In a setting where speed is harder to come by than in the wide-open outdoors, expect the competition to be great with little separating the riders. It’s anyone’s game

That’s a wrap for this week. With heavy rain hitting California, preps for Glendale are on hold, the only answer is riding in the hills hitting big booters but the upcoming Triple Crown race is shaping up to be an exciting one. Here’s hoping we see a couple of Canadians hitting all three gate drops on race night.
